A Day in Cyberspace

PLANG! - The door bangs open - a guy plops into the room, orienting for a second and asking bluntly: "I want a slave, any uncollared here?" -- Frosty silence for a few seconds, the air freezes, one can hear a pin dropping … a sudden storm rises and people start bashing on the guy. "How can you dare?" - "rude jerk!" - "HNG!" … and worse …

We all know this situation well, most of us have been confronted with such an incident already.
I have witnessed it many times during the past years and I wonder more each time. There is a guy who has probably no clue what he's doing and what he's stepping into and there is a community of BDSM people who join the channel on a regular basis and who know each other for mostly quite awhile.

Words like respect and tolerance are often used terms on BDSM channels and the above mentioned person is surely acting disrespectful by entering the channel and bluntly asking for a slave without getting to know people.
But why is no one able to explain the "essence" of the community to this person instead of beating him up? Where is the tolerance for different people and people who are new to "our" communities?
Let's remember back to the time when we started to visit those channels. We joined, had no clue about how the channel really works, and said "hello" to people and … accidentally interrupted an ongoing scene. Duuh - how embarrassing …
Happily someone explained the situation to us and with the time we learned how to act in those places and finally became a respected member and regular visitor.

Why aren't we more tolerant and patient and take our time to explain the situation to these "disrespectful" people? I know a few people who had a "bad start" - I talked to them for quite awhile and they came back, listened, learned and they are now valued members of online BDSM communities.

We all are strangers somewhere and we never know what we step into accidentally. Let's be more patient and tolerant with others.
